Bertelea Izetta Steely

September 25, 1940 — December 2, 2020

Bertelea “Bertie” Izetta Steely, 80, of Huntersville, North Carolina, went to be with her Lord on December 2, 2020, surrounded by her three daughters during her ascension to Heaven. Bertie was a loving and cherished Mother, Grandmother, Sister, Aunt, and friend to many.

Bertie was born in McPherson, Kansas, on September 25, 1940, to the late Leah Miller and Berthold Miller. She graduated from Salina High School in 1958 and attended the University of Oklahoma where she joined the Alpha Gama Delta sorority. Before moving to Huntersville, North Carolina, in 2005 she lived in Bangor, Maine, Bethany, Oklahoma, and Denver, Colorado.

Bertie retired from the St. Paul Companies where she worked for 25 years as an Underwriter and Marketing Specialist.

Bertie was a very active member of the Happy Times Seniors, Bible Study, and WELCA Group at Community in Christ Lutheran Church in Huntersville, North Carolina. She worked as a volunteer for the State of North Carolina election committee. In the summers she ran “Camp Gram” where her grandchildren would come to play, swim, do arts & crafts projects, and work on their summer reading. She enjoyed walks, painting, jig-saw puzzles, reading, playing mah-jongg, and visiting with friends and family.

Bertie is survived by her sister, LaRetta Flora of Denver, Colorado; three daughters; Deborah “Deb" Porter of Dallas, Texas; Patricia “Trish” Boyd of Charlotte, North Carolina; Karen Wantland of Huntersville, North Carolina; three sons-in-law; Larry Porter, Kemper Boyd, and Dennis Wantland; five grandchildren; Trevor Wantland, Rachel Porter, Miller Boyd, Sidney Wantland, and Riley Wantland; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and life-long friends.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, December 18th at 1:00 p.m. It will be a Drive-In Service outside of the Community in Christ Lutheran Church (7621 Norman Island Drive, Cornelius, North Carolina 28031) with Pastor Michael Beery and Pastor Lisa Beery presiding.
